“Gotta catch ‘em all!” That’s Pokemon Go’s tagline for their new addictive and interactive game that is available for Android and iOS. This past summer we’ve seen a surge of all sorts of people playing the game. The game uses augmented reality, which is a way of overlaying digital information on top of real world surroundings. You see the full picture by looking through the camera on your smart phone. As well, the game uses your phone’s GPS to tag your surrounding and gets you to move around in the real world. This results in a lot of physical movement, interaction with other players and crowds of people gathered at local park and hotspots (seriously, go search on YouTube).
The only downside: your phone’s battery will take a serious hit on power consumption. GPS alone uses a lot. So does your camera. Augmented reality uses twice as much. The game also needs your screen on to play. Again, screen power uses a lot of power. So what’s the solution? Plug in? Ok, but there isn’t always a plug-in around when you’re out walking around. How about a car charger? Well, not everyone will be near a vehicle or have one. The most economical and easiest solution is a portable power pack to carry with you!
There are so many choices when it comes to portable power, but MiPow takes it to the next level and really makes sure you have everything you need. Designs are sleek, modern and beautiful.
There are basically three choices when it comes to MiPow portable power: small (single full charge), medium (single full charge, plus some) and large (multiple full charges). But they’re also all very convenient to carry and use. Depending on your phone’s battery, and how you carry around things, there’s a MiPow for everyone. MiPow is also very strict on quality control. That’s why ALL MiPow products that have an iOS connector (lightning plug) are MFi certified by Apple.
On the small end MiPow has their Power Tube 3000 series. These are just a little longer than a tube of chap-stick, but will contain a full one-time charge for your phone’s battery (3,000mAh). On top of that, the Power Tube comes WITH the cable needed to plug into your phone. Ie: no more carrying around a separate power cable. The finish on the outside is a soft-touch plastic and there are LED lights to give you an indication of power level remaining. You can also use the MiPow app and Bluetooth pair with the Power Tube to track it’s location, power level and also use it as a Bluetooth dongle! The price is attractive at $59.99 for the iOS version and $49.95 for the micro USB version.
On the medium side MiPow has their Power Cube 5000 series. These are sleek and fit perfectly into a back pocket. As usual, they come with the connector to charge your phone and LED indicator lights. The Power Cube series provides a full charge and a half, for most phones (5,000mAH). Pricing is $79.95 (MSRP) for the iOS version.
Finally, on the large side MiPow has their Power Cube 9000 series. These are the ultimate solution for the hardcore Pokemon Go player and traveler. These will provide 2 or maybe 3 full charges, depending on your phone’s battery size (9,000mAH). In my case, with my Samsung Galaxy S7, I get 3 full charges! This model of MiPow is wrapped in a beautiful aluminum body and has LED lights to indicate the power level. And yes, connectors are present (as with all MiPows) so you don’t have to carry extra cables with you. There is even an extra USB port so a second person can charge their phone! Output level of the power is also at the highest (2.4 amps) so you get a fast charge out of the Power Cube. You can also charge a tablet with this model. Pricing is $84.95 (MSRP) for the iOS version.
All MiPow portable power batteries have a smart fuse and safety controls put in place. They help regulate the temperature of the internal lithium-ion battery and protect the user from short circuits. In short: they are safe devices and MiPow takes it seriously. MiPow also manufacturers their own batteries. No third party.
So there you go! You have your portable power, so get out there and catch ‘em all!

Introducing the Samsung Galaxy S7 & Galaxy S7 edge
Samsung introduced two new highly anticipated flagship devices at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) on Sunday February 20th: the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. The key overall differences from last year’s Samsung Galaxy S6 models include improved ergonomics (they’re very comfortable to handle and use), bigger batteries, water resistance (IP68) and the return of expandable storage.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is built similarly to last year’s Samsung Galaxy S6, with a 5.1” Quad HD Super Amoled Display at a pixel density of 577 ppi. It also uses an “always on” display that shows notifications, battery power, etc. You’ll be happy to know that power usage is less than 1% per hour for this new feature. The Galaxy S7 edge is built with a 5.5” Quad HD Super Amoled Display at 534 ppi.
Samsung has designed these new models with an improved camera! Last year DXOMark ranked Samsung’s GS6 lineup of phones as having the BEST camera amongst mobile phones: http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Moto-X-Style-Mobile-review-Style-and-Substance/Ranking)
This being the case, it is hard to believe Samsung could design the GS7 and GS7 edge cameras to be even better, but they have!
How? By constructing the GS7 and GS7 edge camera with a better aperture lens (f/1.7 from f/1.9); this allows for more light to enter the camera. They also made the pixel size larger from 1.12um to 1.4um. Overall, they rank this camera 95% better in low light conditions over the GS6 lineup.
The cameras also integrates a new dual pixel camera sensor which acts a lot like your own eye. Every single pixel in the sensor focuses ultra fast; I personally tried this and was amazed at how quick it reacted and adjusted. No delay at all and optical image stabilization (OIS) still remains!
Next, these new phones are also faster! Samsung has bumped the RAM in the phones from 3GB to 4GB. Both devices sport the new OctaCore Exynos 8890 processor; this is an 8 core processor that also utilizes the Vulkan API. Basically the same processing power you see in many high-end gaming PC machines. This makes the phones 67% more powerful in higher GPU performance and 80% more efficient in CPU usage, than their predecessor.
Samsung has also increased the battery size of these phones, while making the overall phone a little thicker than the GS6 lineup (0.2mm thicke). The GS6 had a 2550 mAh battery. The GS7 now has a 3000 mAh battery. The GS6 edge had a 2600 mAh battery, whereas the GS7 edge has a 3600 mAh battery.
Next…the return of expandable storage! North America will see Samsung ship the 32GB version of the GS7 and GS7 edge; you can then expand your storage with a microSD card at up to 200GB!
Fast wireless charging still exists. The GS7 & GS7 edge still use MicoUSB, despite rumours of USB Type-C coming.
The GS7 & GS7 edge are also water resistant and dust proof with an IP rating of IP68. This means they can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes! Of course, the occasional splash of water won’t hurt them. In fact, Samsung encourages you to run them under water to “clean them up.” Amazing!
To summarize: These new Samsung devices are better and more polished versions of the GS6 series. Increased battery life, better cameras and expandable storage are great additions. Users will love the improved ergonomics and the speed of these phones. The GS7 will be available in Onyx Black and Silver Titanium. The GS7 edge will be available in Silver Titanium. Stay tuned for the release!
VERUS Rebrands as VRS DESIGN
Mobile Accessories Manufacturer Readjusts as it Gears for Expansion
BREA, California—February 17, 2016—Verus®—known for its mid-to-high-end Apple® and Android™ cell phone cases and covers—is announcing a complete company rebranding initiative in the 2016 fiscal year to accompany its expanding product line-up and changing corporate philosophy. The Verus brand and all of its properties—with the exception of older product lines nearing discontinuation—will adopt the VRS Design™ name and insignia effective immediately. The decision revolves around design and fashion as focal points of all upcoming product launches in response to the current climate of rapidly changing consumer demand in the mobile accessories market especially. Other efforts have been made to further dominate the target demographic of professionals in their 20s and 30s: to create deeper immersion into the brand’s new design language, VRS Design is also diversifying its product portfolio beyond cell phone and tablet cases to include a wider range of offerings.
Originally named after the Latin word for “true,” Verus was founded in South Korea as a manufacturer of third-party Apple accessories. The company first opened its North American branch in Brea, California in 2014 as its global operations headquarters and has since entered Canadian online and retail distribution channels. ”Hey Siri, give us a hint!”
That was Apple’s tag-line on their website leading up to the September 9th, 2015 keynote announcement. Forget the semantics, and let’s dive right into what we really want to know:
“The only thing that’s changed is everything”
Apple announced two new iPhones: the iPhone 6s & 6s Plus.
There are a lot of internal changes to the iPhones this time around, but key differences include:
-Bumping the rear camera megapixels from 8 to 12
-The front camera has been updated to 5 mega pixels and the front display acts as a flash so you can take even better selfies!
-A new Rose Gold colour
-Optical image stabilization on both models and the ability to record 4k videos
Of course, there are also changes and upgrades to the A9 chip CPU and the GPU (70% and 90% faster).
These new iPhones are also slightly bigger and heavier than their predecessor.
Weight and Dimensions
Please see the chart below for exact details:
So…will your existing cases fit these new iPhones? The simple answer is “they should”.
However, there are some vendors that have informed Cesium otherwise. OtterBox has stated that their products will fit, except for the Defender line-up. This being the case, new Defenders are coming and will need to be ordered for the new iPhones.
Vendors such as Uncommon, Ballistic and Verus are already compatible! LifeProof will have new product for the new iPhones. We can expect to see them by late October. We are still waiting for confirmation from Moshi, Griffin and a few others.
Please be assured that all product has been properly labeled as compatible or not on CesiumOnline.com. You should see product compatibility right in the initial description.
Example: Verus VRI6SHPSDS High Pro Shield iPhone 6/6S Black
Since many of the existing SKUs are already compatible with the new iPhones you can go ahead and label them as such (just make sure you cross verify), and also start your pre-orders with us!
We’re looking forward to these new iPhone launch!
